If you’re into beauty and makeup, then the chances are that you try to think of something new to try for your makeup every Halloween. The good news is that there are so many different products from retailers like Sephora that you can use to create your makeup looks.
1. First, You Need A Pair of Fishnet Tights
Although it sounds strange, a pair of fishnet tights are the best way to achieve the mermaid scale look. The holes in the stockings are the stencils for the scales. As weird as it sounds, the best way to do this is to cut one of the legs off a pair of tights and wear it on your head. Wearing the stockings ensures that they don’t move while you’re applying the makeup so that you get a perfectly positioned stencil and all of your scales look consistent. In addition, you will apply the makeup to your cheekbones and temples, so ensure the net is in a good position. You can, however, also choose if you want to have the scales elsewhere on your face or body.
2. Then, You Need A Setting Spray
Next, you’ll need a setting spray from Sephora. It doesn’t matter which one, as long as you are happy with it, so ultimately, it’s just about your preference. You can use the setting spray to wet your skin where you want the scales to be. A setting spray will help the eyeshadow firstly to stick but also to stand out even more. If you don’t have any setting spray, you can dip your brush in water before you start.
3. Blue, Green, Gold, and Purple Eyeshadow
You will need blue, green, purple, and gold eyeshadow for the next step. If you don’t like these colors, choose whichever you prefer for your mermaid look. Holding the fishnet in place, you can start by layering the blue eyeshadow onto your skin using a tightly packed brush. After you’ve done the blue eyeshadow as your base, you can layer some green eyeshadow on top to create a mermaid look. Finally, you can add some purple around the edges to add a pop of color and create a contrast in your mermaid look. The gold eyeshadow you can put on your eyelids when you’ve finished the mermaid look, just to add some sparkle and tie the whole look together.
4. Highlighter
When you’ve finished layering the blue, green, and purple eyeshadow, you can finish off that part of the makeup look by applying some highlight over the scales to make them shine and sparkle. Once you’ve done that, you can remove the fishnet tights, but do so very carefully.
5. Eyeliner and Mascara
To finish the mermaid look, you can apply blue or green eyeliner to your upper lashes to create a bold, statement look. You would then apply your gold eyeshadow to give your mermaid look a shimmery glow. And the final step, apply some mascara to add the finishing touch to your mermaid makeup look.
